(November 27, 2012) The USA Water Polo Southwest Division will hold its Olympic Development Program practice session at the Rockwall Aquatic Center this  Sunday, December 2.

The Southwest Division comprises Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas. Athletes who have gone through tryout sessions will be participating in three practices. The last practice is a two-day selection session where the Southwest Division will pick  individuals to participate in the East-West Regional tournaments, scheduled for this spring. There the Southwest athletes will play against teams from across the USA. National Team coaches use the East-West tournament as their selection process to bring athletes in to try out for spots on the National Teams.

“We have been very fortunate to have had some of our kids do very well in this program,” said Jim Hummingbird, Rockwall Water Polo Club President. “We have had three of our players in the National Team Selection Camp over the last two years. One has made it there twice, and one made the National Cadet Women’s Team last year.”

Hummingbird added that he feels it only appropriate that ODP program found its way to Rockwall.

“We are very fortunate that our head coach, Andres Rodriguez, will be coaching the 9th and 10th grade boys this year. It is nice to be rewarded for our kid’s successes,” he said.
