City of Rockwall honors top employees

Donny Delgado

(ROCKWALL-January 15, 2013) Top employees were recently recognized by the City of Rockwall for their dedication and service, including Employee of the Year Donny Delgado of the Street Department.

“It’s really nice to know there are still some honest people out there,” said Assistant City Manager and Director of Street Maintenance Brad Griggs, explaining that Donny turned in more than $300 he had found to his supervisor Billy Chaffin. “The money belonged to a fellow employee that got it back the next day. Donny was selected for the award for his outstanding contributions and kindness.”

Frank Dunlop

Frank Dunlop of the Rockwall Police Department and Dennis Pittman of the Water/Wastewater Department each received the Director’s Choice Award for demonstrating the core values of the city.

A sworn officer with the police department for 22 years, Frank is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division, and he oversees the operations and activities of the public safety mobile computer system.

“On a daily basis Frank is tasked with managing our department’sNew Worldsoftware system and the same system used by the Rockwall Fire Department and the Heath Department of Public Safety,” said Rockwall Police Chief Mark Moeller. “He is also responsible for supervision our Crime Analyst, three records clerks and the Property and Evidence technician.”

For 13 years, Frank has been instrumental in several upgrades of the department’s software. He recently simultaneously upgraded the Mobile System and replaced the video system with a digital Coban in-car video system. Frank managed his time to cover all hours of the day and weekends so he could have personal contact with each field employee of each agency on their shift and in every vehicle they use.

“This literally saved the city thousands of dollars in overtime,” Chief Moeller said.

Frank is currently working with the Rockwall County District Attorney’s Office training county prosecutors, investigators and clerks on a process he developed to file the police department’s criminal cases electronically.

“He is a dedicated employee, truly one-of-a-kind and an extremely valuable asset to our department,” the chief said.

Dennis Pittman

Providing excellent customer service and always responding to calls and emergencies showcases Dennis’ dependability and respect for teamwork with all city departments, said Assistant City Manager Brad Griggs.

“Over and above what Dennis does while he is at work, I want to recognize him for what he does on his own time that builds morale and encourages teamwork, which shows he cares about his co-workers and helps to create a family-type atmosphere with his fellow employees,” he said.

That includes baking birthday cakes for each Service Center employee – amounting to more than 45 cakes a year – but Dennis also “epitomizes the Values Based Standards we use in our evaluation system, and he shines in Organizational Relations/Interpersonal Communications,” he said.

Ben Sumrak

Ben Sumrak was honored with the Public Safety Volunteer of the Year Award. Ben was selected by his fellow volunteer firefighters for his willingness and efforts above and beyond the call of duty in assisting firefighters and the community.

Service awards went to employees that have worked for the city from 15 to 35 years. Eighteen other employees reached the 10-year service milestone and 10 celebrated five years of service with the City ofRockwall.
