FUMC Wesley Arts series looks at ‘Judaism Today’ with Rabbi Ben Sternman

(ROCKWALL-January 10, 2013) On Thursday, January 31 at 7 pm, First United Methodist Church of Rockwall, 1200 E. Yellow Jacket Lane, will host for its Wesley Arts speaker series Rabbi Ben Sternman of Temple Adat Chaverim, who will speak on  “Judaism Today: Beliefs, Understandings, and Movements”.

A brief question and answer session will follow his remarks.  The public is invited.  Tickets for $5 may be purchased in advance at the church office or at the door.  Complimentary childcare will be provided with advance reservations; call 972-771-5500.

Rabbi Sternman received his bachelor’s degree from Cornell, followed by his MBA. He entered the world of corporate finance but soon found that while he loved solving mathematical issues, it was not completely fulfilling.

In his later years at Cornell, Sternman led Reform Shabbat services, and during his finance career, he served on the board of his temple in various positions. Sternman finally decided to trade the world of high finance for the life of a Reform rabbi – and never looked back.

After being ordained at Hebrew Union College in New York in 2003, he served as associate rabbi at Congregation Beth Israel in Austin from 2003-08 and at The Community Synagogue, Port Washington, N.Y. from 2008-2011.  He currently serves at Temple Adat Chaverim in Plano.
