Hartman Elementary hosts SMaRT Night

First grade teacher, Julie Craighead, and Principal, Becky Reidling, help show the availability of educational Apps for the Ipad and how to use them to enhance learning.

(ROCKWALL ISD-February 24, 2013) Grace Hartman Elementary recently hosted SMaRT Night for students and their families. Activities in Science, Math, Reading and Technology were set up in the gym throughout the building.

2nd grade teacher, Candy Lee, helps demonstrate “Dancing Spaghetti” (carbonation) to Blake McIntire, his younger brother and dad.

Each activity was capable of meeting students on different skill levels and challenge them to try an even higher level of thinking. Tables of activities included Dancing Spaghetti (carbonation), Invincible Balloons (putting stick through balloon without popping), Rockin’ Robots (exploring shapes), Super Hoops  (working with fractions, decimals, percentages and prediction), educational Apps for the Ipad, Book Exchange, a skit performed by staff members, Super Hero Reader, representative from the Rockwall Library and many more activities to enhance learning at set up in a fun environment.

Language Science teacher, Staci Hiberd, manned the Book Exchange table. This allowed children to bring in a book they were finished reading and exchange it for a new book at no cost.

Students and their families were free to choose any activity with staff on hand to help get things started. Even the parents learned some fun new things and enjoyed watching their child explore new ideas.
