Hartman students taste test smoothies

YAC members Maddie Demien and Kaitlyn Anderson serve Kalyn Dryman and her younger brother, Tyler Dryman, a tasty, healthy smoothie in a trial taste test as part of the Healthy School Zone initiative.

(ROCKWALL ISD-February 7, 2013) Hartman Youth Advisory Committee members were recently asked to create smoothie recipes using only fresh fruits and vegetables for taste testing as part of its Healthy School Zone initiative.

More than 100 students tested the smoothies.

“It is so exciting to see our students wanting to be healthy and trying new things,” said Coach Elizabeth Trowbridge.

Hartman’s chefs-in-training were asked to figure out the cost to make the smoothies, as well, to hopefully serve them on the breakfast line in the cafeteria.

YAC member Laurin Rohrig said, “It was neat hearing a kid say my smoothie made them smile. I told them it was the citrus!”

Kindergartener Sophia Crawford said, “They are fantastic and pretty, too!”

It was a healthy, tasty way to start the morning and a little adventurous for some of the students who were trying new things.
