(ROCKWALL ISD-May 5, 2013) The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers have selected Micah Day as the “Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month” and Raena Eldridge as the “Lady Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month.”
Day is an 11th grade member of the varsity soccer team and Eldridge is a 10th grade member of the swim team. Day was nominated by Coach Troy Williams, and Eldridge was nominated by Coach Paul Wallace, and both were chosen by the Jacket Backers board.
Micah, a striker and mid-fielder for the Yellowjacket Varsity Soccer Team, scored 10 goals in February, while also maintaining his academics.
“Micah is an extraordinary athlete and has proven himself as a productive goal scorer. Micah is a key ingredient in our success this year,” said Coach Williams.
Also receiving nominations for the month were Zach Bennett (Gymnastics), Gaines Kinsey (Track), Garret Miller (Wrestling), William Rapp (Swimming), and Dylan Yarbrough (Golf).
At the 2013 5A UIL Swimming & Diving Championships, Raena won silver medals in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 Backstroke. Her times were fast enough to earn Raena an automatic All-American recognition, Raena’s first such designation in swimming and RHS’s first ever All-American swimming recipient. Raena was also involved in breaking or rebreaking 10 RHS school records during the month of February alone and currently owns or shares 8 of the 11 RHS Girls Team records in swimming.
“Raena is exceptionally focused when it comes to swimming. She finds ways to balance her school and practice time, in order to get the most out of both. That is what allowed her to medal at the state meet two years in a row. She wants to swim at a Division 1 college, and is putting herself in position to swim wherever she chooses by the time she is done,” said Coach Wallace.
Also nominated for this month’s Lady Jacket of the Month were Morghen Day (Basketball) and Miranda Larkin (Soccer).
