Helping Hands Annual Campaign underway through June 30

(ROCKWALL-April 1, 2013) Rockwall County Helping Hands is often the first place Rockwall residents turn when a crisis hits. The agency does four things really well: they keep a roof overhead, utilities connected and food on the table and provide healthcare to the uninsured and medically underserved.

In 2012, Helping Hands:

  • Provided financial aid and/or food to more than 4,000 Rockwall residents
  • Gave out 28,000 bags of groceries from the Food Pantry
  • Ensured almost 300 families had Thanksgiving Baskets
  • Distributed three new toys each to 1,300 children in 480 families
  • Provided healthcare to 5,100 patients, almost 1,300 of whom were on a Sliding Scale fee schedule
  • Administered 2,000 vaccines to children and adults

Helping Hands relies on a diversity of revenue sources to fund its programs.

  • Thrift Store sales provide 40% of our revenues
  • The Health Center fees for services provide 17%
  • United Way of Metropolitan Dallas provides 8%
  • Special Events provide 7%

The balance, 28%, comes from donations and contributions from donors: individuals, civic organizations, churches and businesses. Every donation means that a mother can feed her children, a father can put gas in the car to get to work, there are new toys under the tree at Christmas and family members have access to affordable, quality healthcare.

Those wishing to make a difference in the life of a child may donate online at rockwallhelpinghands.com. In appreciation of donations of $250 or more, a commemorative brick or item will be placed in the Garden of Helping Hands.

“Remember, Helping Hands is not just another agency; it’s a vital part of Rockwall,” writes Executive Director, Margo Nielsen, on the Helping Hands website.
