Rockwall Chamber LunchBox Series welcomes Texas Workforce Commission

(ROCKWALL-April 17, 2013) Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is the state agency charged with overseeing and providing workforce development services to employers and job seekers of Texas. TWC strengthens the Texas economy by providing the workforce development component of the Governor’s economic development strategy. Texas boasts an incredibly skilled workforce ready to attract enterprise to the Lone Star State. By focusing on the needs of employers, TWC gives Texas the competitive edge necessary to draw business here.

The Rockwall Area Chamber LunchBox Series is featuring guest speakers from the three commissions that make up the TWC, each representing employers, labor and the public.

On Wednesday, April 24, Burney Cain, Tax Auditor with the Texas Workforce Commission will speak.  The luncheon will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers.

Cain has been with the Texas Workforce Commission for almost 38 years.  He is a UT Austin graduate, a Navy Communications Officer and a Vietnam Vet.  He will be speaking on the fundamentals of how the TWC works, where employers’ documentation and rights fit into the process, how to plan ahead, and know how to use a probationary period to their tax advantage.

He will explain employer tax rates and how they are paid, why they vary, the four components, and what an employer can do by their hiring and firing practices, and documentation to control their annual rate.

He will explain the 12 quarter rating period, how the type of termination can affect a person’s UI claim and whether they will get UI, if an employer will be charged and how that can affect their tax rate for 3 years. He will explain their appeal rights, the Voluntary Contribution buy-down of some or all charge-backs to get a lower re-calculated rate.

He will be available after the presentation to stay and answer questions for those that would like to speak to him one-on-one.

This is a great opportunity for our local businesses to get answers specific to their individual needs!  Join the Chamber this spring for informative lunches and lively discussions.

If you are planning to attend and would like to order a lunch for $10, RSVP to the Chamber office at 972-771-5733 no later than noon, Tuesday, April 23.
