Rockwall High water polo teams earn high seeds for North Texas Regional Tournament

Coach Morgan Madrid gives the Rockwall HS Girls instructions during a regular season game.

(ROCKWALL-April 19, 2013) The Rockwall Girls Water Polo team finished the regular season strong and was rewarded a 4th place seeding in the upcoming high school regional tournament. Not to be outdone, the Rockwall Boys team received a 2nd place seed in the same tournament.

“This is the highest seeding we have ever had for this tournament,” said assistant coach Jim Hummingbird. “The highest until now was 5th and both teams eclipsed that. For the first time, we are expected to place in this tournament and that would be the icing on the cake for this season.”

The highest a Rockwall or Heath team has placed in the North Texas Regional Tournament has been 5th place as well. The Rockwall Girls and Heath Boys teams of 2012 were the last to do that. The top 4 teams in this double elimination tournament will move on to the 2013 TISCA Texas State High School Water Polo Championships this May 3 and 4. But first things first, they must play up to their rankings. The Rockwall Girls play Friday night at 8:15 pm vs. Southlake/Carroll. The boys open the tournament on Saturday morning at 8:45 vs. the winner of Colleyville Heritage – Irving MacArthur. All games are being played at the Southlake-Carroll ISD Natatorium, located at 1501 W. Southlake Blvd. in Southlake.

The complete schedule can be found on rockwallwaterpolo.com website. “These young athletes have had an incredible season. Please come out and support them in their quest to qualify for their very first state tournament”.
