Friends of Library presents awards, checks during last meeting of year

(ROCKWALL-May 20, 2013)Friends of the Rockwall County Library has suspended meetings for the summer but will resume regular meetings on September 10. At the May 14 meeting, President Kathy Melston recognized outstanding volunteers and presented the prestigious Hartman Award to Darlene Bealmear.

Bealmear was cited for her participation in the Library Building Committee, work with Pumpkin Patch activities, and service on the Library Advisory Board where she was a former chairperson.  Other contributions include arranging for programs and helping with table and room decorations for regular meetings.  The Hartman Award recipient is determined by popular vote by Friends membership.

Library Director Marcine is all smiles as she receives three checks totaling $27,680 to be used for library purposes. Friends president, Kathy Melston made the presentation at the May 14th meeting.

The Celia Hays Award is presented to the outstanding library volunteer and is selected by the Library Director and staff.  This year’s recipient is high school junior Madi Hartley, who was recognized for her volunteer work in the children’s area.  Children’s Librarian Doreen Miller says, “Madi enjoys role-playing in the special summer programs and her enthusiasm is contagious.” In other business, President Melston presented the Library Director Marcine McCulley three checks totaling $27,680 to be used for periodical subscriptions, special programs, and the Adult Literacy program.  The money came from membership dues, and revenues from fundraising activities including Pumpkin Patch, the annual Christmas Luncheon, Lunch Basket, and the Mimi puppet show.
