Local teen to represent Texas at the YMCA Conference on National Affairs

(ROCKWALL-May 23, 2013) The Texas Delegation to the Conference on National Affairs selected local teen Alyssa Mastronardi as one of 25 representatives to its 2013 conference, taking place from June 29th to July 5th. This will be Mastronardi’s second year as a CONA delegate, and she is thrilled to be returning.

The Conference on National Affairs, or CONA, is a week-long conference sponsored by the YMCA and focused on encouraging high school students to explore national affairs through problem solving and debate. Approximately six hundred outstanding students from across the nation participate, each responsible for presenting a public policy proposal.

The conference has been held at the Blue Ridge Assembly in North Carolina since 1971 and seeks to provide experience in Servant Leadership to delegates, as well as a broad exposure to national government and the crucial issues facing society.

CONA serves as the national level of the YMCA’s Youth and Government program. Mastronardi served as the president of Rockwall-Heath’s chapter of Youth and Government for the 2012-2013 school year. Each year, the RHHS Y&G delegation attends both regional and state conferences, and this year was their best yet. Over the course of three conferences, RHHS received 22 medals- far more than any other legislative delegation. Mastronardi is extremely proud of her delegation and is excited to represent them at the 2013 Conference on National Affairs.
