Rockwall County DA to be honored by State Bar of Texas

Kenda Culpepper earns Certificate of Merit

(Rockwall County) June 18, 2013 – Presentation of awards honoring exceptional service to the public and the legal profession will be a highlight of the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting, to be held June 20-21 at the Hilton Anatole.

Among those being honored is Kenda Culpepper, who has  earned a Certificate of Merit, presented by the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors and past presidents. Culpepper, the Rockwall County district attorney, will be one of two statewide lawyers to receive this prestigious award, which is presented to recognize a Texas lawyer’s outstanding contributions to the legal profession. She shares the award with Ralph Brock, a Lubbock attorney.

“I was incredibly honored to have been nominated, and I am obviously excited about receiving the award,” said Culpepper, who is the state chair of the SBOT Professionalism Committee. “I look forward to continuing to work with the State Bar to enhance the integrity of the legal profession.”

During the last year, Culpepper helped to reinvigorate the state’s Professionalism Committee and tackled many important tasks that were part of State Bar of Texas President Buck Files’ initiatives. Through her energy, vision, and leadership, the committee worked to enhance ethics and professionalism in the Texas legal community. The committee implemented new resources for the State Bar of Texas Transition to Practice mentoring program and labored to produce new avenues for lawyers to get ethics training. They were instrumental in identifying authors for the mentoring issue of the Texas Bar Journal and helped to realize the reaffirmation of the Texas Lawyer’s Creed, a standard for professional behavior in the legal community. The committee also built a foundation for significant projects for the next bar year.

The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas that provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system.
