Rockwall-Heath FCCLA fashion student heads to Nationals

(Rockwall ISD) June 25, 2013 – Nicole Johnson, a student in the Rockwall-Heath Chapter of Family, Career & Community Leaders of America, is busy preparing for National FCCLA Competition on July 7-11 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The soon-to-be-senior is also spending time this summer working at the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce.

Nicole was one of several RHHS students who competed at the State level of FCCLA competition back in April. She took first place in Fashion Construction (after taking first place in Fashion Construction at Regionals), and is the only RHHS student to advance to Nationals.

Among the outstanding RHHS Fashion Design students to compete at the State level were Danielle Clark, who placed 2nd with a score 2 points below 1st place;  Hannah Barton, who placed 3rd; Ziz Shalabi, who placed 5th; and Morgan Montgomery, who placed 6th.  Montana Delozier also entered in the category of Fashion Design and did a great job representing RHHS.

Brittany Baldwin represented RHHS the Interior Design category at State.  Julie Durst sponsors the RHHS FCCLA group.

This year, the  FCCLA students began what they hope will be carried on as a long-standing RHHS tradition by hosting the Faith, Heart & Sole Color 5K Color Run at Wilkerson Sanders Stadium. The 5K  helps raise awareness about domestic violence and supports the RISD Take a Stand program. The inaugural event was held in memory of 15-year-old RHHS student, Surie Baeza.
