Texas, My Texas: transplanted Texas songwriter composes with heart

Glenn Boudreau

(June 18, 2013) As the saying goes, local songwriter Glenn Boudreau, 63, may not have been born in Texas, but he got here as fast as he could. The Rhode Island native and his wife, Cookie, moved to Royse City about nine years ago, and recently took up residence in Rockwall.

“As a young boy, I always loved old Westerns. Rhode Island is far from cowboy country,” Glenn said. “In 2003, I was offered early retirement from the U.S. Postal Service, and that opened doors for us to move.”

Glenn’s best friend from high school was living in Texas at the time, so he and Cookie paid him a visit. They ended up visiting again – and again – until they “just fell in love with the state.”

“My wife and I did a lot of praying about our move, so we had faith we were making the right decision,” Glenn said. He spent years “dabbling” in music, and always had a passion for sharing stories – so he decided to try writing music. His first demo, “Texas, My Texas,” was recorded at Gator Hole Studios in Nashville.

“My wish is for as many people as possible to hear my song. It is heartfelt, and speaks of the strong character of the people ofTexas. I think it is the type of positive, uplifting recording that people today are looking for, especially in the trying times we live in, with all the negativity that surrounds us,” Glenn said.

“I wish I could take credit for the melody, but I’m not very talented in that field,” he added. “Fidel Hernandez, a singer from South Texas, performed the vocals. I think he did a splendid job, bringing life to my lyrics.”
