Meet Carolyn Townsend of Rockwall
(Rockwall) July 29, 2013 – Among the exciting developments happening at the JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall is the welcoming of Carolyn Townsend, who will serve as Aquatics Director. Interim Aquatics Director, Colton Read, will be headed off to college this fall.
Carolyn studied biology and anthropology and earned two BS degrees from the University of Arkansas. She also studied abroad in France and Africa. She is a 2008 Rockwall High graduate who is passionate about living and working in her hometown community. Carolyn first began working at the Rockwall Y when she was 16. During college she worked as a head lifeguard and swim instructor at an athletic club, and later as a preschool teacher and afterschool enrichment teacher for older children.
Carolyn’s certifications include: Red Cross LIfeguard, AED, CPR, and First Aid; YMCA LIfeguard, AED, CPR, and First Aid as well as supervisor training; YMCA swim instructor; Red Cross WSI (water safety instructor); Positive Discipline of Children; Protecting our Children; Arkansas Child Care Orientation Training.
Carolyn was active in the YMCA growing up and participated in Indian Princess, now known as Adventure Guides & Princesses. Her parents, Lesa Walker and Rudy York, and grandparents, Phyllis and Ray Walker, live in Rockwall.
