(Rockwall County) July 15, 2013 – The Rockwall County Newcomers & Friends Club is a nonprofit social organization to provide a social outlet for women who live in Rockwall County. The Club welcomes new residents, but also women who have been residents of Rockwall County for many years. The Club was organized in 1977 and expects to hit a membership goal of two hundred women when the year begins in September. The Club meets the second Thursday of each month from September to May.
The Club President, Carol Hatcher, is a native Texan. Carol and her husband Don lived in five states before they retired and moved to their favorite state, Texas and the city of Rockwall. This is an achievement since they lived in beautiful Hawaii for three years.
Carol taught school for 35 years in six school districts before retiring from Snow Canyon High School in St. George, UT. Don retired from JC Penney Co. They are both avid volunteers for their Church and for One Man’s Treasure, which is a ministry providing donated clothing to inmates on their release from prison.
Like many of Rockwall newest residents, they share a common denominator: grandchildren. With four grandchildren in RISD, Carol and Don knew the Rockwall area would be their destination upon retirement. They did not expect their choice would include such an incredible community.
A “people person” Carol met another grandmother at a grandchild’s ballgame. This grandmother invited Carol to visit the next meeting of Newcomers & Friends. The rest is history as Carol begins her second year as President of the Club.
Newcomers and Friends offers opportunities for women to meet and be part of the community. The new year will begin on September 12, 2013.
