BBQ, disc golf tournament to help local firefighting family

July 10, 2013 – A Benefit BBQ and Disc Golf Tournament will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 23 at Harry Myers Park in Rockwall, to help offset medical expenses for Sara and Matt Dennehy of Kaufman.

Sara is the 28-year-old wife of DeSoto firefighter/paramedic Matt Dennehy of Kaufman. The new mom recently underwent brain surgery for a cancerous tumor, and is starting radiation and chemotherapy at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

“This is the just the beginning of a very difficult physical and emotional journey for the young family,” wrote  family friend and event organizer, Brittany Fox of Rockwall, on the Team Dennehy/Team Sara Facebook page.  “Expenses just to be away from home (food, lodging, fuel etc.) will be very costly. DeSoto firefighters are planning various fundraisers, and will be collecting donations to help the family. We are also reaching out to all the other fire department families and friends.”

The community is invited to come out and show support for the Dennehy’s. Donations will be accepted, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to Matt, Sara and their four-month-old son Easton.

Team Dennehy Golf Tournament

In addition to the BBQ & Disc Golf Tournament, a Team Dennehy Golf Tournament will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 31 at Buffalo Creek Golf Course, 624 Country Club Drive in Rockwall. Those interested in participating should contact Jeremiah McAdams at 927-754-8405.
