July 22, 2013 –Fifteen-year-old Rockwall swimmer Alexander Rodriguez won a gold medal on the 200 meter breaststroke and a silver medal on the 100 meter breaststroke at the XXVIII Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) held in San Jose, Costa Rica, June 30 to July 8th of 2013.
Alex represented the Dominican Republic National Team winning the gold medal on the 200 meter breaststroke with a time of 2:31.32 and the silver medal on the 100 meter breaststroke with 1:09.21. Alex also took fourth place on the 50 meter breaststroke with 31.80.
It was very tough to swim at almost 4,000 ft altitude and the competition was very tough, and it was a tremendous experience for Alex to be able to successfully perform at this level. The Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation includes countries from Mexico to Central America, to Caribbean countries, to Venezuela and other South American countries.
