Throwaway Ponies rescues horses from Red Oak, seeks sponsors

Corralling the horses to get them into the trailer.

(Rockwall) July 12, 2013 – Volunteers are stepping up to help make a difference for seven horses rescued today in Red Oak by Throwaway Ponies of Rockwall.

Sponsors and foster homes are urgently needed as Throwaway Ponies works to provide medical care and training so the horses can be ready for new homes.

This was the horses' fence line, with wire all over the ground.

“They have never even been haltered and were living in horrible conditions. They need training so they can be re-homed,” wrote Karen Bander, owner of Throwaway Ponies, who reached out to friends,  supporters and media to help spread the word.  “One has a large bite on her neck which will heal. Others had cuts from fences, but they were well fed.”

Sadly, one of the horses had to be put down. The others are about 8 months old to five years.

To help, call Karen at 214-20201390. Donations can be made through their website at throwawayponies.org or find them on Facebook at facebook.com/ThrowawayPonies.

Throwaway Ponies will be featured on “Plugged in to DFW” on Channel 21 (CBS) at 6:30 p.m.  Saturday, July 27.
