(Rockwall) August 26, 2013 – VisitRockwall.com and the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce are excited to announce the Rockwall Boat Show, coming Sept. 28-29 at The Harbor.
Sponsored by the Dallas Morning News, Rockwall’s inaugural “on land & in the water” boat show will feature new and vintage boats, stunning performances by the Metroplex Mavericks Show Ski Team, and flyboard demonstrations – the newest craze in water recreation – compliments of Bobby Vance and Gulf States Flyboard.
Exhibitors from the Wooden Boat Association of North Texas will showcase an outstanding array of antique and classic watercraft from the 1930s to 70s, with well known brands like Chris-Craft, Century and Gar Wood, as well as lesser known makes such as Cowell and Glass Magic. The WBA has been proactive in locating Yellow Jacket Boats, a popular line of molded plywood boats made inDenisonfrom 1949-59, and Willis boats made by Willis Boat Works of Dallas, a racing boat specialist that had its plant onGrand AvenuenearFairParkfrom the 1930s to the early 1960s. WBA members have collected and restored several examples of both marquees.
Show-goers may also take advantage of an introductory sailing lesson with North Texas Sailing School.
“This is a great opportunity for our community, as well as for those outside of Rockwall, to enjoy the perfect weekend getaway. What better way to enjoy the end of the warm weather on the beautiful shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, than at the Rockwall Boat Show,” said Chamber president Dana Macalik. “We expect many people from outside the area to come experience The Harbor, which is home to great dining, shopping and nightlife.”
Area hotels are offering special Boat Show packages starting as low as $99. Lodging is available at the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront at The Harbor, Hampton Inn, La Quinta Inn & Suites, Best Western Plus Rockwall Inn & Suites and Super 8 Rockwall.
