(Rockwall ISD) August 30, 2013 – Last week, Rockwall ISD launched the Rockwall STEM Experience 2013, an innovative professional learning opportunity designed specifically for Rockwall ISD Math, Science and Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers.
In lieu of traditional staff development, Rockwall ISD teachers and STEM facilitators took a trip to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science to develop cross-curricular lessons. On Tuesday, August 20, 28 sixth grade math and science teachers from 13 elementary campuses traveled together to the Perot. The following day, Wednesday, August 21, 161 middle and high school math, science and CTE teachers also attended the experience.
The overall goal for the two-day event was “Connect-Collaborate-Relate–Create.” With the start of school, teachers have already begun implementing the cross-curricular lessons they created at the Perot Museum into their classrooms. This one of a kind experience was headed up by CTE Coordinator Jean Laswell, 6th-12th Grade Secondary Math Coordinator Cathi Albrecht and Secondary Science Coordinator Joey Belgard.
A special thanks to the corporate sponsor, Special Products and Manufacturing Inc. for donating the teacher backpacks for the Rockwall STEM Experience.
