(ROCKWALL – Sept 18, 2013) United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and The Cooper Institute® are celebrating their selection of schools for the Healthy Zone School Recognition Program®, an initiative providing North Texas schools with resources to engage teachers, students and parents in a joint effort to improve community health and reduce childhood obesity.
Rockwall Independent School District is proud to announce that four campuses were selected as 2013-2014 Healthy Zone Schools. Those campuses include: Grace Hartman Elementary, Dorris A. Jones Elementary, Amy Parks-Heath Elementary and Herman E. Utley Middle School.
The Healthy Zone School Recognition Program is a six-year partnership between United Way and The Cooper Institute to honor schools that have created an optimal environment for students to engage in healthy behaviors. Selected schools will receive funding and volunteer support to fully implement healthy practices on their campuses, as well as initiate wellness programs that engage the surrounding community.
“Physically fit students perform well on standardized tests, have better attendance and encounter fewer disciplinary actions,” said Dr. Cooper.
