Rockwall County Justices of the Peace attend Mass Fatality Incident Response Course

(ROCKWALL – Sept. 18, 2013) Rockwall County Justices of the Peace Judge Nancy Beaty Pct. 2 and Judge Liana Whitten Pct. 4 attended a Mass Fatality Incident Response Course, held at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences Building, Office of the Dallas County Chief Medical Examiner September 10-12.

This 3-day course prepares local and State response personnel and other responsible agencies and professionals to handle mass fatalities effectively and to work with the survivors. This course is also part of the FEMA Advanced Practice Series (APS). The APS curriculum provides “how to” training focused on skills needed for emergency operations and management.

The Justice of the Peace serves as a coroner for Rockwall County and would have a vital role during any mass fatality.  Although there is much hope this training will never have to be used, both Judges felt it necessary to attend the crucial training in order to gain as much knowledge as possible concerning the issue.

Since the training, a roundtable meeting/work session has been scheduled by Joe DeLane, Emergency Management Coordinator for Rockwall County and Melanie Jensen, Emergency Management Specialist, which will include all local area agencies that would be involved in the event of any mass fatality here in Rockwall County.
