83-year-old teacher, student enjoy unexpected reunion in Rockwall
Physical therapist Bervey Bailey and his fourth grade teacher, Marion "GG" Albright, 83.

(ROCKWALL – October 25, 2013) In July 2013, 83-year-old Marion Albright, affectionately called “GG,” finally said, “It’s time.”

The life-long resident of Lawton, Oklahoma meant that she was ready to move to Rockwall,Texas. The time had come for her to be near her daughter, granddaughter and great-grandchildren.

GG relocated to a brand new retirement community, Liberty Heights, where she rented a very nice studio apartment that fit her needs perfectly. She made friends easily, enjoyed the great meals, and could not have been happier. Seeing her family on at least a weekly basis certainly brightened up her life.

Unfortunately, on September 10, GG fell and broke her ankle. The break was quite severe and required surgery, pins and plates. After surgery at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall, and acute rehabilitation at Baylor, she was moved on September 25 to Broadmoor Medical Lodge for her long-term rehabilitation.

In October, physical therapist Bervey Bailey came to begin the plan for GG’s rehabilitation process. While a nurse was taking GG’s blood pressure, Bervey began his job by familiarizing himself with his patient’s background. He first asked GG where she had lived before moving to Rockwall. When she responded, “Lawton, Oklahoma,” he asked her if she had been a teacher at Lawton Almor West School. She turned to looked at him. Then he said, “I’m Bervey.”

Tears flowed and they hugged each other. This was truly an occasion of joy; GG could not believe she was seeing one of her favorite students from 35 years ago.

When Bervey was in the fourth grade, GG was impressed by her student’s desire and determination to learn. GG also taught Bervey’s sister, Iva.  Over the years, GG kept up with Bervey through his mother and knew he had gone on to college to become a physical therapist.    Later, GG lost contact with Bervey’s mother.

Who could have ever guessed that a favorite fourth grade student would reunite with a beloved teacher 35 years down the road inRockwall,Texas, of all places.

Submitted by Dianne Knight, Marion “GG” Albright’s daughter. Dianne and and her husband Kenny live in Rockwall. Also living in Rockwall is GG’s grandaughter, Staci Hiberd and her husband Michael, and GG’s 10-year-old twin great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Cameron.
