(ROCKWALL – October 21, 2013) The Rockwall City Council recently approved a contract with Rockwall County Committee on Aging to help fund the Meals on Wheels program and other senior services, including nutritional programs for the elderly and disabled in the city.
MayorDavid Sweet said Meals on Wheels is a vital service to the community. “It is very rewarding to know that our city can contribute to the great work of this wonderful organization and be an advocate for their services,” the Mayor added.
Included in their services are meals served at the SeniorcCentercand home delivered meals to homebound seniors due to physical or health reasons. They also provide information and educational seminars for benefits counseling, prescription drugs and senior health information and caregiver support. The City contributed $30,000 this year, a $5,000 increase over last year.
“Meals on Wheels is committed to the belief that seniors have the right to live independently in their own homes for as long as safely possible,” said Margie VerHagen, executive director of the program. “The City of Rockwallprovides funding, volunteers and advocacy to the organization to match federal and state grants to help grow and expand services to our elders.”
