ROCKWALL (November 27, 2013) Alondra Sanchez, a student at Sharon Shannon Elementary, is the winner of the poster contest to become the Grand Marshal of the 44th Annual Christmas Parade presented by the Kiwanis Club of Rockwall County.
Alondra’s artwork best depicted the parade theme “Just Imagine” according to the contest judges. Her artwork is incorporated in the parade posters going up around Rockwall.
The parade will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 7th. The parade route starts at Caruth Dr (near the YMCA); proceeds south on SH 205 to Kaufman and then east on Kaufman to Clark Street ending near Dobbs Elementary.
This year’s parade includes a variety of entries including several horse units, the combined Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath Marching Bands and Drill Teams and local business and civic organization floats. Joining the parade for the first time will be a lovingly restored 1923 Tangley Circus Calliope, played by its owner Dr. William Flynt of Dallas. In those days, the calliope was used to announce circus parades as they arrived in town. The music could be heard for several blocks and attracted people to the circus tent.
