Rockwall Pets salutes active military and veterans

ROCKWALL (November 8, 2013) Military veterans and active military personnel can adopt a companion animal for only $11 as part of a Veterans Day celebration by Rockwall Pets. The Rockwall-based nonprofit will be adopting adult dogs and cats at a special rate to anyone with a military ID at the Rockwall Petco on November 9-10.

The Veterans Day celebration will take place at the Rockwall store, located at 2689 Market Center Drive, on Saturday from 1-5pm and on Sunday from 1-4pm. Military personnel and veterans can adopt any dog or cat aged 11 months or older for $11.

“This is the third consecutive year we’ve hosted a Veterans Day celebration,” explained Michael Kitkoski, executive director of Rockwall Pets. “We’ve been pleased with the response from the military community, since we feel this is an effective way for us to offer our thanks for their service to our country.”

Rockwall Pets is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the killing of healthy shelter pets nationwide. Shelter killing is the number one cause of death for healthy dogs and cats in the United States, according to the American Humane Association. To enhance its No Kill advocacy, Rockwall Pets rescues animals at risk of dying in area animal shelters, gives them full veterinary care and finds them a permanent home.

Rockwall Pets led campaigns to turn the Rockwall and Royse City animal shelters into No Kill facilities. Both shelters now have save rates in excess of 95%. The organization is now working to turn other area municipal shelters into No Kill facilities. Texas now has many open admission municipal shelters with save rates in excess of 90%, including Austin, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Seagoville and Williamson County.

The public is invited to participate in the Veterans Day celebration at the Rockwall Petco this weekend. Donations to help offset the cost of the military adoptions can be made at rockwallpets.com/donate.html. Military personnel and veterans must show their military ID card to qualify for the $11 pet adoption special.
