(November 21, 2013) Several local youths were recently commissioned as Ambassadors to Men and Women by The Men and Ladies of Honor at The Atrium in downtown Garland, at a celebration for the organization’s 10th year of transforming at-risk kids into world-changers.
Nearly 400 people attended from various branch locations in the United States, while leadership as far away as South Africa sent video greetings.
Ranging in age from 12-18, the boys and girls have personally dedicated many hours studying curriculum, completing charity projects, and making presentations to peer groups, all while striving to achieve personal growth through improved grades, exemplary conduct, and higher accountability.
“Being a male is a matter of birth; being a man is a matter of choice!” the boys shouted in cadence, as a key point in the axioms they are required to memorize, recite and exhibit in everything they do.
“My attitude is my choice!” echoed loudest among the Ladies of Honor as they delivered their axioms to the attendees.
“Throughout the boys’ and girls’ curriculum and instruction, we emphasize choice,” said President and Founder Tony Rorie. “No one is allowed to continue status quo, to be a victim of their circumstances—we teach them that they all have greatness inside them, and they have to make a deliberate daily effort to rise above it all and live a life of excellence.”
The Men & Ladies of Honor is a character education and leadership development program founded in Dallas area, now based in Rowlett, that has grown to international proportions in the past several years. With strong representation in Miami, Florida and Grand Rapids, Michigan areas, the organization has stretched south into Honduras and Belize, and, most recently, northward, with a new group emerging in Canada.
As it continues through the next decade, organization goals include additional after-school groups on charter and public school campuses and community centers, which means more camps–a critical piece in helping children wipe the slate clean for a new start.
