Rockwall Kiwanis Christmas Parade Cancelled

ROCKWALL COUNTY  (December 5, 2013) With winter weather already entering Rockwall, the 44th Annual Rockwall Kiwanis Christmas Parade is cancelled.  According to the National Weather Service, there is a high degree of confidence there will be a significant ice storm beginning Thursday evening and it is expected to have a two or three day impact.

The National Weather Service expects temperatures to remain below freezing across much of the metroplex for most of the weekend, and any icy roads on Friday are not likely to improve through Sunday morning.  A second round of light wintry precipitation is possible Saturday into early Sunday morning.

Our parade entries include many local service organizations with a large number of children.  The parade sponsors are concerned about the safety of its participants if local forecasts hold true and extreme winter weather is still in place on Saturday morning as anticipated.

Rockwall Kiwanis’ goal is to serve children of the community.  Kiwanis members feel the decision to cancel the parade is the best way to protect the health and the well-being of all volunteers, participants, and attendees.

We appreciate your organization’s commitment to this annual holiday event and we hope you will join us next year!
