Rockwall ISD to participate in full scale emergency exercise Wednesday

ROCKWALL (February 24, 2014) On Wednesday, February 26, from approximately 1 to 5 p.m., Rockwall ISD will be participating in an emergency mock drill in conjunction with Public Safety Departments and governmental entities in Rockwall County.

The full scale emergency exercise will take place at Utley Middle School. It will consist of a collective response to a fictitious scenario involving an active shooter inside the school. THIS IS AN EARLY RELEASE DAY FOR ROCKWALL ISD, SO ONLY VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATING IN THE DRILL WILL BE ON THE UTLEY CAMPUS DURING THE EXERCISE.

The Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management will coordinate the event. More than 50 public safety responders from every jurisdiction in the county along with dozens of volunteers and other supporting personnel will be participating in the exercise, including several student volunteers. The purpose of the exercise is to evaluate the countywide emergency response plan while also allowing Rockwall ISD and Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall the ability to evaluate their internal response plans to this type of event.

Due to the scope of the exercise, the general public may notice unusual activities around Utley Middle School from 1 to 5 p.m.during the time of the exercise. All residents are asked to remember that this is a simulated training exercise only. A large number of police cars, fire trucks, and air and ground ambulances will be onsite and involved in the event. This is a joint exercise between the Cities of Rockwall, Heath, Royse City, and Fate; the Rockwall ISD, Rockwall County EMS, Rockwall County, and Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall.
