ROCKWALL (February 19, 2014) The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers have selected Clay Rittershaus as the Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month and Raena Eldridge as Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month.
Rittershaus, a 12th grade member of the varsity soccer team, was nominated by Coach Troy Williams and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.
Clay is captain of the Yellowjacket soccer team and led them to two tournament championships last month. He leads the team in scoring with 9 goals and 11 assist to date. Clay leads by example, has a strong work ethic and encourages his teammates. He also shows great school spirit by being very supportive of the other sports teams at RHS.
“Clay can single-handedly determine the course of a game,” said Coach Williams.
Also nominated for Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month were Holt Erwin (Gymnastics) and William Rapp (Swimming).
Raena Eldridge is an 11th grade member of the varsity swim team. She was nominated by Coach Paul Wallace and chosen by the Jacket Backers board as Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month.
During the District 11-5A Championships Raena became district champion in both the 50 yard freestyle and 100 fly and was named “Swimmer of the Meet.” She won both events by several body lengths.
Raena does a great job in and out of the pool. She has become a leader to the underclassmen not only for her high level of work ethic but also for her commitment to academics. Raena has already earned All-American in two different events this year, the first time ever this feat has been achieved by an RHS swimmer.
“Raena has done a great job all year. This has allowed her to qualify for the State Championships in Austin where she will try to win another title in the 50 free that she won as a freshman. I think she will continue to grow and shine as a not only a student and athlete but an individual as well,” said Coach Paul Wallace.
Also nominated for Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month was Emily Cowan (Softball).
