Rockwall police report significant drop in overall crime rate

ROCKWALL (February 19, 2014) While the City of Rockwall has almost doubled in both population and commercial businesses along the I-30 Corridor in the last 10 years, it has also seen a tremendous reduction in its overall crime rate.

Police Chief Mark Moeller reported to City Council on Monday, February 17, 2014, that the Overall Crime Rate in 2013 was 11.6% lower than in 2012. During this ten year period from 2003 through 2013, Rockwall has experienced a steady decline in crime, most significantly a 66.3% drop in Violent Crime, a 43.2% drop in Part 1 Offenses and a 45.4% drop in Total Crime.

Chief Moeller attributes the reduction in crime to several factors including: a strong and visible police presence, very active Citizens on Patrol Volunteers, and willingness by the community to take part in Neighborhood Crime Watch Programs, and to get involved by reporting suspicious behavior.

Information provided by Sgt. Jeff Welch, Public Information Officer, Rockwall Police Department.
