ROCKWALL (February 24, 2014) When Barbara and Steve Jackson, owners of Toyota of Rockwall, heard that over 400 area teachers were giving up a Saturday to learn more about technology in the classroom, they wanted to support the cause.
Toyota of Rockwall gave away more than $800 in prizes with the grand prize of an iPad Mini presented to the lucky winner, Brittany Lancaster, who works for Royse City ISD. Ten other winners received a certificate for a full service oil change and maintenance check.
The prizes were awarded at the EdCampAwesome event held on Saturday, February 22nd at Royse City High School. Teachers from Rockwall County as well as throughout the area attended the event with one teacher traveling from as far away as Arizona. EdCamp Awesome is an “UNconference” that allows teachers the opportunity to network and brainstorm strategies for using technology in the classroom.
Toyota of Rockwall supports numerous causes throughout the community with Rockwall ISD being their largest benefactor. They provide a six-month lease on a new Prius to the two Teachers of the Year annually and are giving $5,000 in matching grant money this school year to recipients for classroom instruction and teacher training. Barbara told the EdCamp Awesome participants that she was thrilled to have an opportunity to reach outside the boundaries of their home school district to express their appreciation for the work teachers do each and every day.
