Brigadier General Kula to lead North Texas Municipal Water District

WYLIE, TX (March 31, 2014) Brigadier General Thomas W. Kula has been selected by the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) Board of Directors to succeed the retiring Executive Director Jim Parks.

Kula, the commander of the Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will leave the U.S. Army after 32 years of service effective April 11, 2014. NTMWD has received a letter of assurance from Kula stating his intentions to accept the leadership of the NTMWD once his military commitment is completed.

Kula stated, “I am so very appreciative of the many opportunities I have been given to serve our nation, and I’m always proud of the men and women I have been fortunate to serve with and to lead. I have enjoyed my nearly four years with Southwestern Division supporting a seven state region and providing value to the public and our many partners. It’s been a tremendous last assignment! Though it’s always hard to end one chapter of a career, I have the best of all memories of the Army, and I look forward to continuing to serve our region and our nation in other capacities.”

Kula’s previous military assignments have included assignments in Germany, Fort Leonard Wood, the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; the Pentagon; and deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

After 35 years of service to the NTMWD, Executive Director Parks will be retiring on April 30, 2014. For the last 16 years of his career, Parks has been the Executive Director of the NTMWD and will continue to lead the agency until Kula joins the NTMWD on May 1, 2014. Reflecting on his tenure with the NTMWD, Parks said “I am very proud of the role that I have had in guiding the NTMWD’s growth over the past 35 years and I hope that the master plans that I have helped to develop will be beneficial in guiding the NTMWD over the next 50 years as it’s service population grows from 1.6 million to 3.8 million citizens. I hope that this path forward becomes my legacy. Now, I plan to spend more time with my family and enjoy retirement, but I will always be thankful for the opportunity that I have had to serve the citizens of North Texas that rely on the NTMWD.”
