Citizen Fire Academy March 27-May 22 in Rockwall

ROCKWALL (March 24, 2014) Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be inside of a burning building? What it takes to cut a person out of a car? What it is like to rappel from 75’ in the air? What its like to climb the 100’ ladder? What it feels like to wear fire fighter gear?

Get an insider’s view of the Rockwall Fire Department by enrolling in the Rockwall Citizen’s Fire Academy. This free educational program provides Rockwall citizens an insider’s look at firefighter training involving structural firefighting, fire investigations, and fire prevention, plus hands-on experience in emergency operations.  You’ll even get to ‘ride out’ on emergency calls with firefighters!  Join us – and learn more about the services your Rockwall Fire Department offers while increasing your fire and life safety awareness.

The academy includes classes about various fire department activities and all classes include a hands-on activity each night.  Climb a ladder truck, investigate a fire scene, use a fire extinguisher, drag a fire hose, wear all the gear, use the rescue tools to cut apart a vehicle, experience firefighter life inside a fiery building, do the same things Rockwall firefighters do while they train to rescue citizens from burning buildings.  All activities will be overseen by Rockwall Firefighters.
