ROCKWALL (March25, 2014) Rockwall High School junior Wyatt Miller has organized a 3v3 basketball tournament to benefit Homes for Our Troops, with proceeds going toward a home being built in McLendon-Chisholm for severely wounded veteran Marine Corporal Michael Fox.

Cpl. Fox was on his third deployment when he suffered traumatic amputations of both of his legs in an IED blast inMusa Qala, Afghanistanin 2011.

“I wanted to do something to help, and I thought a basketball tournament would be a great way to get a lot of people involved,” said Wyatt, whose father, Dr. Bart Miller, and grandfather, Dr. Frank Miller, both served in the military.

Homes for Our Troops is a national nonprofit organization that assists severely injured veterans and their families by raising money, materials and professional labor, and by coordinating the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently. The homes are given at no cost to the veterans they serve. A groundbreaking ceremony held January 25th at the site of Cpl. Fox’s new home drew many supporters from the community, and the event inspired Wyatt to take action.

The Cpl. Michael Fox 3v3 Basketball Tournament will be Saturday, March 29 at RockwallHigh School. It is open to adults and all high school students in ninth grade and up. Team check-in is at 8 a.m., and games get underway at 8:30. The cost is $15 per player, with four to six players per team. Participants will get a free t-shirt and there will be prizes for the winners. To sign up, email and request a registration form, or register online at signmeup.com/98746.
