ROCKWALL / HEATH, TX (April 24, 2014) Fulton Upper School students participated in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) State Academic Competition on April 7-8, 2014. This competition allows private schools from all over the state of Texas to showcase their students’ academic strengths by competing in categories such as Ready Writing, Literary Criticism, Number Sense, Yearbook, and Science to name just a few.
Junior Zach Johnson placed 2nd in Ready Writing at the State Academic Competition. Students are given 90 minutes for this contest. They are required to write an expository essay on a current topic. The essay should be interesting, organized, and conformed to correct English writing styles. Zach also placed 3rd in Literary Criticism; during this contest students are tested on their knowledge of literary history and critical terms.
“In short, Fulton is a place to learn. A place where challenges are given, boundaries are pushed, and standards are set. The TAPPS Academic Competition makes sure to include events for every type of student. It is by the open-platform teaching style of the staff at Fulton that I was able to do so well at State. The long open-ended discussions and frequent debates held in Mrs. Moore’s English Class have helped foster a love for the language and the techniques by which we may apply it.” Zach Johnson
