Barbara Doudt

ROCKWALL, TX (April 27, 2014) The last Friends of the Library meeting of the 2013-2014 year will be held Tuesday May 13th at 11 a.m. in the Community Room of the Rockwall County Library.

Rockwall resident Barbara Doudt has put together vignettes from the 2014 Rockwall Summer Musicals season and will present the program.  Talented cast members will perform selections from Rogers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” and Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes.”  To see an informative video about the beginnings and growth of RSM as well as performance dates and tickets, visit the website rockwallsummermusicals.org.

Doudt is well known in theatre circles.  She performed many seasons with the Dallas Opera and with Garland Summer Musicals.  In Indianapolis, Indiana she appeared in productions of “Oklahoma” and “Carousel.” The multi-talented Doudt has received accolades for her roles as actor, singer, dancer, director, choreographer, and teacher, working with the Rockwall Community Playhouse and the Rockwall Summer Musicals.

Doudt is dedicated to encouraging talent and for many years owned a successful performing arts school in the Richardson-Garland area.  She served as director of Pullen Elementary drama club and Broadway Babies, a troupe of young performers.  Now a private vocal coach in Rockwall, she is Vice-President of Productions with Rockwall Summer Musicals.

Kathleen Broze, a past president, will install the officers for the 2014-15 year.  The outstanding volunteers will be recognized with the announcement of the recipients of the 2013 Hartman and Celia Hays awards.  The Hartman recipient is selected by popular vote of the Friends membership, while the library director and the 2013 awardee selects the Celia Hays recipient for 2014.

Friends meets six times a year and all meetings, with the exception of the Christmas Luncheon, are held in the Rockwall County Library.  The group works to promote the interest and welfare of the Library and profits from their various fundraising events supplement the County library budget, paying for special children’s programming, adult literacy programs, subscriptions and other items.

Meetings start at 11 a.m. and visitors are welcome; however reservations are required for all and must be received by Tuesday, May 6th.  That is also the last day to cancel prior reservations.  A catered lunch is available for $15 payable at the door.  For reservations, e-mail or call 972-771-8976.
