JFS volleyball tournament honors memory of Rockwall student

ROCKWALL, TX (May 1, 2014) The 2014 JFS Memorial Volleyball Tournament is set to be played on Saturday, May 17, on the sand courts of the Oasis Beach and Tennis Club in Rockwall. This is the 10th annual tournament held in honor of the memory of Jessica Shaw. Check in will begin at 8:30 a.m. and games will begin at 9.

This volleyball tournament is held annually in honor of Jessica Frances Shaw, a 2004 Rockwall High School graduate who died in an automobile accident in August 2004. Jessica was a 4-year starter on the Rockwall High School volleyball team, where she earned numerous awards and honors. Jessica was also a coach for several YMCA youth teams, and for the Club MVP volleyball team.

Jessica’s #10 volleyball jersey was retired and is on display in the trophy case at Rockwall High School. The Rockwall High School volleyball team presents the Jessica Shaw Award for “Leadership, Friendship, and Loyalty” at the end of each season to a player selected by a vote of the team. Proceeds from this tournament go to the benefit of the Rockwall High School volleyball team, with a portion set aside as a scholarship for the player selected for the Jessica Shaw Award.

This is the third year in a row that the tournament will be on the sand courts of the Oasis Beach and Tennis Club in Rockwall. The Oasis Beach and Tennis Club is located at 5757 State Highway 205 in Rockwall. Location maps and information about the facility are posted on their website at oasistennis.com.
