Rockwall City Council selects new Mayor Pro Tem

ROCKWALL, TX (May 23, 2014) Jim Pruitt was selected as Rockwall Mayor Pro Tem by his fellow council members during the May 19th meeting of the Rockwall City Council. He will automatically become mayor of the city when the current mayor, David Sweet, resigns to assume the position of Rockwall County Judge.

Mayor Pro Tem Pruitt thanked council members for appointing him.  “I am so humbled by this honor and the trust which has been bestowed on me by my fellow council members,” he said. “We have a lot of exciting challenges ahead of us, and I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of this great city in this new position.”

According to Rockwall’s City Charter, Pruitt will serve as mayor until the May 2015 municipal elections. He has confirmed that he will be a mayoral candidate at that time.  Mr. Pruitt’s vacant city council seat will be filled by council appointment until that same election.  Mayor Pro Tem Pruitt took the oath of office on Monday to begin his 2nd term on the city council.  His wife Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper and daughter Kaylen also attended the ceremony.
