Assessing and addressing community health

HEATH/ROCKWALL,TX. (June 27, 2014) In healthcare, we thrive on change – especially when it arrives as expanded health care offerings, new specialties, technology and other avenues of growth.

Last year, Texas Health Rockwall conducted a Community Health Needs Assessment to better understand the health status and needs of our community. This assessment, which you can view on our website, offers added insight into which programs should be implemented to provide the greatest health benefit to you and your family. As your community hospital, we are committed to providing a response to those needs.

It is this commitment that drove the concept for our free-standing ER in North Rockwall just a year ago. Growth in northern Rockwall County and southern Collin County resulted in a need for better access to medical care. In reaching our goal to provide emergency care for life threatening conditions (including stroke/chest pain intervention) and other medical emergencies we knew that patients needed to be seen quickly but with individualized attention. The North Rockwall ER has been immensely successful doing so for thousands of patients this past year.

A similar scenario occurred a few years ago in regards to imaging services. We already provided unparalleled mammography services in a welcoming and relaxed setting but understood from the community that it wasn’t enough. Our patients needed greater access to overall diagnostic imaging but, still wanted the personalized care our women’s imaging patients received. As a result both our Outpatient Imaging Center and Women’s Imaging and Breast Center were born.

Community education is an important component of our CHNA and has always been an emphasis at Texas Health Rockwall. With topics ranging from childbirth education, breastfeeding classes, and diabetes education to colon cancer awareness, health screenings and cancer support we strive to offer those programs you need to live your best life.

We promise that as we continue to provide you the best care possible we are also looking for other ways to help your community – our community – be the healthiest it can be. So continue to offer us feedback! Let us know what you need more of and what your family wants in the way of healthcare services.
