Chisholm Ranch BBQ chili takes home the blue

ROCKWALL, TX (June 20, 2014) Last Saturday at the first ever Rockwall Country Fair, Wayne Orchard of the Chisholm Ranch BBQ catering business took home three blue ribbons for his invention “brisket chili,” including first place—the Best Taste award.

Orchard said that he created brisket chili for his family and has been perfecting the recipe for about three years.

“What inspired the brisket chili was a change up to the traditional chili my family was eating,” he said. “The brisket adds lots of depth and flavor. It always tastes like it came right off the smoker.”

Orchard said he loves to cook because it is a creative outlet for him.

“I love taking something like an uncooked brisket and transforming it into something totally different by adding flavors and profiles through my rubs and woods,” he said. “Then to receive compliments from those eating what I have prepared is fantastic.”

Chisholm Ranch BBQ is a newly established business that just began catering a few months ago. Orchard said he was approached by a member of Soroptimist, the organization responsible for the Rockwall Country Fair, and asked if he had a BBQ recipe that included chili. Sure enough, Orchard was the man for the job.

“The event organizer knew my family has entered in various BBQ contests and asked us if we had a BBQ chili we would like to enter,” he said.  “After she explained how the Soroptimist organization gives so much back to the community, we couldn’t pass up the chance to help. The best part of entering was to show our children that you can mix what you love to do with helping your community.”
