Friday Study Club installs officers; contributes to library

ROCKWALL, TX (June 10, 2014) The Friday Study Club recently met in the Rockwall County Library for its regular meeting and installation of the 2014-15 officers.  Club president June Frawley presided over the business portion of the meeting.

Ruth Beck announced the Rockwall Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at The Harbor in August with Michael Manley, Music Minister at First Baptist Church, directing.  Their performance there last summer was a huge success.

Kathy Melston presented Marcine McCulley, Rockwall County Library Director, a generous donation from FSC to help with the Library’s childrens programs.  Support for the Library has been an important on-going project of the Club for many years.

Kathy also continued our “walk down memory lane” with information gleaned from the Club’s archives. It seems 1980 was the year the Club’s ties with the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs ended.  The Federation was involved with the Friday Study Club’s organization in 1919.

Ruth Peck installed the following officers:  President, June Frawley; First Vice President, Peg Pannell Smith; Second Vice President, Betty Moon; Recording Secretary, Martha Baker; Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer, Carolyn Duckworth; Reporter, Ruth Willis; Assistant Reporter, Nancy Hill; and Parliamentarian, Becky Cecil.

Ruth made the ritual very entertaining with brief stories in the lives of celebrities who had served in a similar office as the one being installed.

Refreshment were served by the co-hostesses, Marilyn Thompson and Kathy Melston.
