ROCKWALL, TX (June 12, 2014) Outgoing Councilmember Julie Zurek was honored for her many years of dedicated service during a Farewell Reception hosted by the City of Heath on June 10.

“Tonight we honor a very significant member of our community,” said Mayor Lorne Liechty during the reception that followed the City Council meeting. “Her service to the City over the past 20 years has been enormous.”

In addition to serving on the City Council from 2000 to 2014, Julie was a member of the City’s first Comprehensive Planning Commission from 1995 to 1996. She continued on to be a Charter member and the first Chairperson of the Park Board from 1996 to 2000. She also served on the Heath Economic Development Corporation board from 2001 to 2004.

Projects completed during her tenure on the City council included two water towers, Towne Center Park, development of the trail system, and adoption of a Capital Improvement Plan that includes more than $20 million in improvements that will benefit the entire community.

“Julie’s list of accomplishments is significant,” said Mayor Liechty. “However, most importantly, Julie represents what makes the City of Heath a great place to live. She is a leader, yet humble and selfless. She is friendly and welcoming to all, and she is respected by all.”

“We will miss Julie,” the Mayor concluded. “She’s been an extraordinary public servant.”

As the June 10 City Council meeting opened prior to the reception, Mayor Liechty and Councilmember Brian Berry took the oath of office to serve new two-year terms. New Councilmember Joe Chamberlain was welcomed and also sworn into office.
