ROCKWALL,TX (June 24, 2014) The Hilton Dallas Rockwall Lakefront recently partnered with Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County to help feed the elderly in our community. By donating a portion of proceeds from their Mother’s Day brunch, the hotel was able to present a check to MOWSS for $1,500.
“The Hilton takes a great deal of pride being part of the Rockwall community, and Meals on Wheels is a great organization,” said James Montgomery, Hilton General Manager. “This was one of our largest Mother’s Day brunches ever, and we hope to give back to MOWSS again when we host our Thanksgiving and Easter brunches.”
As a former delivery volunteer in the community of Allen, Montgomery understands what MOWSS means to the elderly.
“I used to receive so much more than I gave,” he said. “It wasn’t so much about the meal, but more about the break in the monotony of their day.”
He recalled a time when one lady he visited was very upset. “It was almost Christmas, and she had no decorations up; she needed help with her tree. I agreed to lend a hand,” he said. “Her face just beamed. And to be honest with you, all I did was take the fiber optic tree out from under her bed and stand it up. The branches fell into place. The colors were beautiful. That five minute act changed her holiday.”
Thanks to a challenge grant awarded to MOWSS by the Carl C. Anderson, Sr. and Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation, the Hilton donation will be doubled.
