Photography Contest coming
ROWLETT,TX. (July 14, 2014) The Rowlett Arts and Humanities Commission has announced the winners for their 2014 Writing Contest.
The winners were presented awards in three genres of writing, categorized by Youth and Adult Divisions.
Seventy-one entries were received and all works were judged through a partnership with the University of Texas A & M at Commerce.
The Youth division winners received $50 awards at the June 17th City Council Meeting and the Adult winners received $100 awards.
Here are the winners and the name of their work:
Adult Division
Poetry category: Going Home by Ruth Wharton
Short Story category: How Ralph Changed His Ways by Ruth Wharton
Short Works category: Snake Blvd. by Jan McSwane
Youth Division
Poetry category: Broken Mirror by Michael Nguyen
Short Story category: The Meditation of Wolfgang by Scott Crowell
Short Works category: Crack the Code by Gabriella Munoz

Additionally, the Commission has entry information for the annual Photography contest on its web page under the Category “Photography Contest”.
The theme this year is “Rowlett Up Close” to focus on People, Places and Things in the Rowlett area with an emphasis on close observation that often is lost to the casual observer.
Cash awards will also be made with the opportunity to have winners works included in the Rowlett Dart Station Display tentatively planned for late 2014.
Submissions will be accepted from 10am until noon on Saturday September 6th at the Rowlett Public Library.
