ROCKWALL, TX (August 3, 2014) After 71 years of marriage, Nicholas and Margaret Enzone renewed their wedding vows Friday, August 1 in front of a crowd of friends and family at Rock Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care.
County Clerk Shelli Miller obtained an official marriage license and presented it to the couple to treasure for the rest of their lives.
Mayor David Sweet spoke at the ceremony, which was performed by a Rock Ridge resident.
Nicholas and Margaret’s marriage has withstood not only metaphorical storms, but also physical ones. The couple lived in New Orleans prior to their residence at Rock Ridge and experienced property damages as a result of hurricane Katrina. Their original wedding rings were lost in the hurricane, so they slipped new ones onto each other’s fingers yesterday as a testament to their lasting love.
One of their three children, Rockwall resident Joe Enzone, attended the ceremony with his wife Charlene.
“I’ve known them since I was 14 years old, and I’ve never seen such dedication in my life,” Charlene said.
Nicholas and Margaret shared a kiss as they were presented as husband and wife, and guests enjoyed wedding cake decorated with the original cake topper used 71 years ago.
