ROCKWALL, TX. (August 13, 2014) The Rockwall Home School High School program recently received some national attention as the coach and one of the players were honored by USA Water Polo.
Ty Cowan was selected as S&R Sports Athlete of the month for July 2014. Coach Angela Uno made these comments about Ty:
“Ty Cowan started off his water polo career knowing nothing about the sport but eager to play. At the first practice, I was able to see his potential because he was passionate about becoming a better player. When I asked him what his goals were in water polo, he responded with ‘to practice until I never get it wrong’. He dedicated himself to achieving that goal. Once he was given the task to become one of team goalkeepers, he used his experience from other sports such as soccer to help him achieve the goals. Not only does he have exceptional reflexes and a strong arm, but he has a mind of a phenomenal athlete. It is easy to be an athlete in the pool, anyone who practices a lot can improve, but what makes Ty unique is how he composes himself. He is humble, dedicated, and passionate, and I know that he will continue to grow as a player and as a person.”
Coach Angela Uno was selected as S&R Sport Coach of the month for July. Team parent Linda Fletcher had this to say about Coach Uno:
“For any sport, the coach is the most important person when it comes to the success of a team. A good coach must have a passion for the game and for coaching, must understand the game, must be a great teacher, and most importantly, must be adaptable to the needs of the players. Angela possesses all of these qualities. Only two of the players had any water polo experience and most had little if any water experience. I am so impressed that she took this team from a level of barely being able to swim across the pool and only being able to scrimmage for a few minutes due to fatigue, to being able to play the game with intensity and purpose. By the end of the season, almost every player would have been able to endure playing an entire game without being substituted out for rest. The players learned the ability to pursue competitors, hold possession of the ball, make deliberate and strong passes, and work as a team to score and defend. I have been involved with numerous sports with my children for many years. Angela is one of the best coaches with which we have had the privilege of being associated.”
Coach Uno and Ty Cowan received $50 gift certificates to S&R Sports for this accomplishment. They were chosen over applicants from all over the United States. Congratulations to both for making Rockwall proud.
