Candlelight vigil ‘shines a light on domestic violence’

ROCKWALL, TX (September 30, 2014) Dorothy Spradlin, co-owner of the newly opened Simply Kate in downtown Rockwall, performed “Amazing Grace” during a candlelight vigil at the Rockwall County Courthouse Tuesday night.

The annual event kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and was hosted by Women in Need (WIN).

WIN provides assistance to victims and/or survivors of domestic violence in Rockwall and Hunt counties, as well as surrounding areas. This includes a 24-hour crisis line, counseling, legal advocacy, emergency shelter care, public awareness and teen dating violence prevention programs.

“What a great turnout for tonight. We must spread the word and double our number of supporters next year,” said Connie Pettitt, Executive Director of Women in Need.

The program was held in both English and Spanish and included survivor testimony.
