ROCKWALL, TX (September 18, 2014) Rockwall High School freshman Amy Rester was among several students who performed with the Rockwall Philharmonic Orchestra during the Rockwall MusicFest’s end-of-summer concert August 30 at The Harbor.
Amy is in the RHS Orchestra under the direction of Charlsie Griffiths. Her first memory of music is when she was three years old and her Mom put her in time-out, where she proceeded to play music on her cassette player. She told her mom that music made her feel better.
At age four Amy began playing a 1/10 size violin and by age five she was taking lessons with local violinist, Dawn Ross. She then studied the Suzuki method with Tracy Davis of Rockwall. She has played in the Williams Middle School Orchestra, with the New Conservatory of Dallas, and with a local trio organized with Michele McDonald. Amy attended a Baylor Music Camp for High School Orchestra this summer and actually played with one of the instructors in the Rockwall Philharmonic. She currently studies under Ron Neal of Dallas.
“Playing with the Rockwall Philharmonic Orchestra was an awesome experience. I enjoyed so much be with community, professional, and other student players. I especially enjoyed playing the John Williams’pieces, and ‘Finlandia’ is forever stuck in my mind,” she said.
Amy hopes to play again with the Rockwall Philharmonic and is hard at work on all-region and hopes to try out for all-state.
